Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda is taking his relationship with longtime girlfriend Vanessa Nadal to new heights. The hip-hopping composer and original star of Broadway's In the Heights popped the question to Nadal while the pair were vacationing in Madrid last week--and Nadal said yes, sources close to the couple confirm.
Miranda apparently got down on bended knee outside the Plaza de la Paja in Madrid, Spain, shortly before Halloween. The couple, who have known each other since high school, have reportedly been together since 2005. Appropriately, Miranda's character of Usnavi pines for his own Vanessa in In the Heights.
The engagement continues a wave of goodness for the Tony Award winner. In May 2009, Miranda, who spent part of 2008 collaborating with Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents on the Broadway revival of West Side Story, received a standing ovation from the President of the United States himself after dropping rap verses at the first ever White House Poetry Slam. Miranda also made his primetime television debut opposite Hugh Laurie in the season six premiere of hit TV series House in September before reuniting with the In the Heights team to launch the show's first national tour. He'll reportedly soon be seen on Sesame Street.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
